MS45 to MS43 ECU Conversion. If your car is a 2001-2002 330i/330ci, this page will not apply to you. BMW used a Siemens engine computer, or engine control unit (ECU) to control the fuel injection system in the E46 model range. There were three versions for non-M cars: MS42 for 1999-2000 323i/328i, MS43 for 2001-2/2003* 325i/330i, and MS45 for 2
Save. bmwti 路 #15 路 Nov 7, 2004 (Edited) the engine found in the e36 (US) M3 and the engine found in the e46 M3's are two different engines entirely. the US e36 m3 engine- known as the M50 B30 was single vanos, while the later e46 330 engine (m54) was double vanos, and had a fully electronic butterfly.
CLIFFS: 128i Coupe (driver only) beats 330Ci Coupe (+260lb passenger) by a quarter CL after almost redlining 3rd gear in the E46. Last edited by BL4CK-OUT; 11-07-2008 at 12:19 AM . '09 335i - Alpine white + Coral Red | '02 M5 - Imola Red + Imola Red. Gone, but never forgotten:
Depending on what maintenance has been done, expect to pour another $1-2k into it in parts to bring it up to snuff. If you decide you can forego the ZHP, a closer price would be $7,500 and up for a non-ZHP E46. Maintenance will be basically the same between a non-ZHP E46 and a ZHP E46. If you decide to go for a non-ZHP E46, I definitely suggest
Thomas Plucinsky, BMW Product and Technology Communications Manager told us all BMW engines are designed to run on 91 octane. All performance testing, including EPA emissions and fuel mileage, is done with 91 octane. However, though BMW is all about performance, their motors will run on 89 or 87 octane without damage.

Its kind of like asking if its cool to stuff a sock down the front of your pants. ACT Streetlight Flywheel, ACT Sport clutch, Rogue Engineering SSK, H&R Sways, H&R Sport Springs, KONI
Who would win a hypothetical race from the line: E46 330ci, sport and premium package, 6spd. vs. E36 M3, 5spd. vs. G35 Coupe, 6spd. vs. RSX Type-S, 6spd. Modded for an additional 15whp (hence its inclusion in this race).
Plus you will never get that money back out of the ZHP. where as a clean well maintained E46 M3 6MT has been holding its value pretty darn good and would slowly rise like the E30 M3 in the future, even with slight mods. expect to pay 20+ and up to 30 for a super clean low mileage M3 03.5+.
In terms of the legendary E46 BMW 3-Series, sold from 1997 to 2006, while the M3 seems most desirable, the model you actually want to find is the 330i ZHP. The standard 330i was already a competent car right off of the showroom floor with a 225 horsepower (in the US) 3.0-liter inline-six engine pulling the famously balanced E46 chassis around
An E39 540i isn't too terrible to wrench on (a friend of mine owned one), but parts can be more expensive than a non-M E46. As charlesberry has already mentioned, an E9x 335i isn't DIY-friendly. Find a really nice E46 330 ZHP, and with the extra $$$ budget a minimum of $1K/yr for maintenance & repairs.
GuidoK. The difference between the 330i rear trailing arm and the normal e46 rear trailing arm is that the 330i has a bigger rear brake with bigger diameter rear parking brake shoes. So the parts on the rear trailing arm that hold down the parking brake shoes are on a different spot and the mounting holes from the back plate are also different.
The cost of buying and retrofitting M3 brakes on your 330 would probably cost as much as a BBK if not more. Otherwise, just upgrade the brake pads and upgrade the rotors to stock size, cross drilled units from brembo. However, youre getting a new Bimmer and the brakes are still under warranty.

Be advised that some folks end up replacing the differential wheel they do the 6-speed conversion as the 5-speed differential ratio is too high (numerically low). As far as strength I'd go with a 6-speed tranny made by ZF.
