This music festival, held in Gdansk every two years in July, is a good opportunity for every folk music enthusiast to get to know the traditional music of Poland and other countries of the Baltic region. 4. Lawendowa Osada – Lavender Farm. The most picturesque place: The Lavender Farm. The Lavender Farm, Lawendowa Osada, is one of the most intriguing day trips from Gdansk. This purple paradise has been created by Barbara and Bartosz because they were seeking a more fulfilling and slow-paced lifestyle.
Both are fine. It depends what are you going to do. For night life and bunga-bunga Sopot is better. For more sightseeing Gdansk is better. To be honest Gdansk and Sopot are practically the same town. You can reach Gdansk downtown faster from Sopot than from few distant Gdansk districts.
Heading still further north one finds Gdynia, which was propelled into the limelight in the 1920's, when the Poles sought to construct their own port on the Baltic due to the complications of Gdansk's status as a free city. Slower to blossom than Gdansk and Sopot during the post-communist boom, Gdynia is now getting into gear itself.
Whilst Gdańsk itself has lots to offer, it is a third of a tri-city, consisting of Gdynia, Gdańsk and Sopot. Sopot – one of our favourites – is just a 10-minute train ride from Gdańsk. Gdynia [1] [2] is a port city in northern Poland. Gdynia, together with nearby Gdańsk and Sopot are often referred as Tricity (pl: Trójmiasto ). Gdynia was first mentioned in the 13th century as a fishing village. Its career began after World War I, when it became Poland's main harbour and a big sea port at the Baltic Sea, which it still is.

To speed up your trip to Gdańsk: take a taxi (2 USD) to railway station in Gdynia-Główna, take the fast InterCity train to Gdańsk-Główny (travel time 23 minutes, cost 10PLN/2,5USD), walk to Gdańsk Główne Miasto (Old Town) area and enjoy. Try to avoid slow SKM metropolitan commuter train as you will loose a lot of time.
